rfrm#2:hotel tarantula

„Hotel Tarantula“  | by Özgür Erkök Moroder
Interactive Stage Installation, 2014 | artificial hair, wire and glue

Opening: August 10, 2018, 8.30 pm | the artist is present

rfrm turns in its #2 to Hotel Tarantula, a hair jungle – and brings a moment of uncanny intimacy to the passing strangers in the street.

The object was made by Özgür Erkök Moroder as a stage design for the theatre play “Blanche”, an interactive solo performance based on “A Streetcar Named Desire“ by Tennessee Williams, directed by Shlomo Lieberman. The title „Hotel Tarantula“ is a quote from the play. The main figure Blanche denigrates the hotel „Flamigo“ – where Blanche stays before she moves to Stella and Stanley – as „Hotel Tarnatula“. In the solo performance, the stage design brought two different places together. While everyday objects that Blance use are from Stellas flat, besides we see giant branches made of hair suspended from the ceiling, reaching out to every corner of the stage. It resembles to a spider as well as a root of a tree. Forming the roof of the whole stage  – the stage where Blanche happens.
